UCARE Internship Program

The UCARE internship program provides University of Virginia students opportunities to take part in the improvement of the University’s grounds and the surrounding community. Students engage with community leaders, university faculty, colleagues, and varies networks in effort to solidify relations and strengthen the voices of the students. During the academic year, interns are selected among the most active students with impactful interpersonal skills, community leadership, philanthropic aspirations, and drive. Recognizable, the UCARE internship program have developed outstanding future and present global leaders.

Niya Wilson Williams (2016 Intern)

As a member of the Class of 2018 in the College of Arts & Science, Niya Wilson Williams majors in Politics with a concentration in Foreign Affairs and minors in Arabic. Along with being a UCARE intern, she holds a number of leadership positions that express her benevolence for her surrounding community. For majority of her college career, Niya has been a dedicated member of United Nations Women at UVA where she is currently the Vice President. In addition, she participates in the University Judiciary Committee, Smart Woman Securities, and the Office of American American Affairs Peer Advisor program.

Hannah Neukrug (2014 Intern)

Graduated in 2016, Hannah Neukrug received a Bachelors of Arts in B.A. in Global Development Studies with a minor in Psychology in the College of Arts & Sciences. Her involvement on and off University grounds expresses her dedication to community enrichment. She participated in the Summer Enrichment Program as a counselor, interned at Old Dominion University Office of Institutional Equity and Diversity, and served as a research assistant for the UVA Social Cognition and Behavior Lab. In addition, Hannah volunteered for several years at the Crisis Hotline as a phone operator.

Annie Plotkin (2014 Intern)

Achieved a Bachelor’s degree in Political and Social Thought in 2016, Annie Plotkin have been an extensive member of the UCARE project for over 2 years. Through her extracurriculars, Annie is recognized as a consistent, active member of the global community. Annie obtained a fellowship from the prestigious Global Citizen Year organization, executive assistant for the Cornell Douglas Foundation, development intern for the Latino Student Fund, and research assistant at PublicRelay. As a trilingual of Portuguese, Spanish and English, Annie was a voluntary translator and researcher at the Sustainable Economies Law Center.

Amber Finlay (2012 Intern)

In 2016, Amber Finaly obtained a double Bachelor of Arts degree in Political and Social Thought as well as in African-American and African Studies from the College of Arts & Sciences. Amber demonstrates her interests in civil rights, education policy, and public service through a number of her involvements. Amber attained the prestigious Tennessee Governor’s Management Fellowship, an undergraduate internship for the Brennan Center for Justice, a congressional internship for the U.S. House of Representatives. In addition, Amber maintained her role in the Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated., Black Student Alliance, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, Outreach Student Admission Committee, and the intramural soccer team.

Tony Douglas, Jr. (2012 Intern)

As a member of the Class of 2015, Tony Douglas obtained two Bachelor’s Degrees in Commerce with a concentration in finance and Psychology. During his college career, Tony became an Echols Scholar, participated in the Black Commerce Student Network, and engaged in the Blueprint Emerging Leaders Program. In addition, he held position of intern for the Baltimore Ravens, operations manager for StadiYum Cuisine, sales operations intern for McAfee, and intern for Goldman Sachs. Tony possesses profound interest and experience in the world of business in which he is currently an analyst at Goldman Sachs.

Florette King (2009 Intern)

Graduated in 2012, Florette became a double hoo with a B.S in Global Development Studies and Sociology and Masters of Public Health. She interned with UCARE for over a year during as an undergraduate. Florette went on to intern for Jefferson Area Board for Aging as well as Charlottesville Department of Health. Later in life, Florette served as a Project Manager for Epic then Healthcare Consultant for Booz Allen Hamilton. In early 2015, Florette’s career settled at Deloitte as a Federal Consultant in Strategy & Operations.
