Weekly Update on Uva President/BOV Events

The following is a  compilation of recent events regarding the President, the Board of Visitors, the Interim President, and the Governor… if I am missing anything of note, please let me know! ~Liz

On June 21, Rector Helen Dragas released a statement to the university community. You can read the statement here. The statement outlines 10 “serious strategic challenges” that have been of concern to the Board of Visitors.

On June 22, Carl Zeithaml stepped down as Interim President until Theresa Sullivan’s future at the University is settled. See the UVa Today press release here.

Also on Friday, June 22, Gov. Robert F. McDonnell issued a statement and sent a letter to the board demanding that they resolve the leadership crisis at this upcoming Tuesday’s meeting.

“If you fail to do so, I will ask for the resignation of the entire board on Wednesday,” he wrote. “Regardless of your decision, I expect you to make a clear, detailed and unified statement on the future leadership of the University.”

The Council of Foundations of the University of Virginia issues a statement in support of Sullivan’s reinstatement.

The Board of Visitors is  scheduled for a special meeting on Tuesday, June 26 to consider “possible changes in the terms of employment of the president.” To read more, see this New York Times article.
