This collection consists of interviews filmed during the 1980s for the Civil Rights Lawyers Project by U.Va. English Professor William A. Elwood. The results were used in the award-winning documentary film, “The Road to Brown: the untold story of ‘the man who killed Jim Crow’,” about the life of Charles Hamilton Houston, his crusade for civil rights, and the events that led to the 1954 Supreme Court decision Brown vs. the Board of Education that declared the ‘separate but equal’ doctrine illegal.
