Field day is an annual fall competition established by former president Leslie Eliason. The Washington Society and Jefferson Society compete in a range of athletic events. The oldest and most enduring of these events is the tug-of-war, which was devised by a Wash second refounder Steven L. Huntoon. This tug of war traditionally takes place between the Jefferson and Washington statues on the Lawn.
