On December 15, 1994, the first version of Netscape Navigator was released.

Netscape Navigator became the market-leading web browser in the 1990’s, a period of rapid growth in Internet access and the proliferation of the World Wide Web. In the continued development of Navigator during the 1990’s, Netscape introduced key innovations including secure sockets layer (SSL), JavaScript, and cookies.
