In the 4990 symposium organized in Ern Commons, our group’s Matthew Stromberg, mentored by Kassie Grimes was awarded the best overall project. His poster was titled “Possible Growth Impacts of Selected Antibiotic Drugs on a Model Alga” Congratulations!

Erica coordinated a GradSWE faculty panel
GradSWE hosted a Female Faculty Panel featuring conversations with four female engineering professors including Professors Laura Barnes and Julianne Quinn from the Department of Systems and the Environment. Erica, as Event Coordinator for GradSWE, arranged the event, which was a huge success!
Participation in the SHPE Conference
Recruitment of prospective graduate students at the 2018 Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers (SHPE) National Convention in Cleveland, OH was a success through the Office of Graduate Programs. Jasmin participated and shared her experiences by providing insight into the graduate application process. As a first-generation Latina graduate student, she was invested and appreciated the opportunity to help students like her consider UVa!
Kassie awarded PhD poster prize and travel grant for Copenhagen Bioscience conference!
Kassie was recently awarded a travel grant from the Novo Nordisk Fonden to attend the “Copenhagen Bioscience Conference 15 – Averting the post-antibiotic era” conference in Copenhagen, Denmark. At the conference, she received a PhD poster award for her research poster, “Evaluation of a sustainable wastewater treatment technology to mediate reduction in environmental antibiotic resistance.”
