Maymont and The VA Museum of Fine Arts – Thursday, April 25
Join us on this trip to Maymont, a 100-acre, late-Victorian country estate that typifies the Gilded Age of opulence. We’ll begin with a private guided tour of the restored rooms of the mansion, all furnished with original pieces. This will be followed by a one-hour tour of the grounds. You’ll enjoy the terraced Italian garden, the Japanese garden with its 45-foot waterfall, more than 200 specimens of native and exotic trees, the grotto, fountains, gazebo, and much more.
Lunch will be on your own at the Best Cafe in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Before boarding the bus for our return trip to Charlottesville, you’ll have a chance to visit the museum’s permanent collections, which include jewelry, sculpture, furniture, French Impressionist and Post-Impressionist art, art nouveau, and art deco.
To participate, you may go to the registration page on the OLLI website, www.olliuva.org, and click on “Events” or send your check for $44, payable to UVa Fund/OLLI, to Judy Brown, 3068 Hyde Park Place, Keswick, VA 22947. If registering by mail, please include your e-mail address and phone number so we can notify you whether you have a place on the outing or on the waiting list. Your payment will be held until after the trip. However, if you reserve a spot and then cancel, you will not receive a refund unless we find someone to take your place. Call Judy at 434.293.1380 for more information.
Our chartered bus will leave from the north side of the Sears parking lot at the Fashion Square Mall promptly at 8:15 a.m. and return around 5:30 p.m.
