Over travel break, I went to Barcelona with one of my friends. We took a 7 hour bus from Madrid. The Spanish countryside is beautiful and very mountainous. There are also a lot of windmills spread throughout. When we got to Barcelona, we checked into our hostel, which was close to the city center. It was a very interesting experience; the hostel room had 2 levels, and you needed a ladder to reach the top. It was almost like bunk beds, but the upper level was an entire room. We stayed in a 12 person room, which made it very difficult to get a decent night’s rest. We went out to a local bar and got back to the hostel at 2am the first night. I thought this was late enough, however, in Spain it is common for people to stay out until 5 or 6am. The second night, we went to bed early and left in the morning on our way to Amsterdam.
While we were in Barcelona, we went on a tour of the city and went to the beach. The weather was perfect the entire time we were there. It was one of my favorite cities. The metro system is easy and has stops all around the city, so it’s easy to get around. The food is delicious also. We went to a tapas bar, where you order small plates of a variety of foods. It wasn’t very expensive either, at least compared to Denmark. Overall, it was a fantastic city and I would love to go back.
