Dialogue Across UVA is a collaboration between students, faculty, and staff at the University of Virginia designed to foster and support a caring University community and to engage issues of identity, community, and power dynamics on Grounds. The initiative was started in 2010 when a group of students, faculty, and staff recognized the need to extend the conversations initiated during the Fall 2010 Day of Dialogue and offer a sustainable way to expand upon them.
Dialogue Across UVA is focused on community building and bringing together diverse voices across Grounds to discuss issues that shape our University. Over 350 faculty, staff, and students have participated thus far, and we hope to continue expanding the scale and scope of the project during this Fall 2012 semester. We are very lucky to have great administrative support and a wide-ranging network of active members.
Dialogue topics have covered issues of violence, race, UVA-Charlottesville relations, power and privilege on Grounds, faith at the University, class, our “community of trust,” and student-faculty-staff relations.
